This year in New York, October 17th, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, was commemorated at the United Nations and in the Ocean Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn.
At the United Nations, representatives of countries and NGOs, as well as people with a first hand experience of extreme poverty, were united in the joint commemoration. They spoke out strongly for the need to create the conditions for the genuine political participation of people and families living in extreme poverty.
In Ocean Hill, children and parents presented their neighborhood and lives to visitors from other countries. The international visitors also shared about their own lives, neighborhoods and efforts to overcome poverty and exclusion.
