Since the devastating earthquake of Jan. 12, Haitians themselves have been the first, and still in many districts, the only responders: seizing any makeshift tool to help neighbors out from under rubble, trying to invent ways to cope with the lack of medical care and the increasingly difficult access to water, food and work.
